Exercise is a great habit that helps us get in better shape. We do sports to maintain our weight or improve our overall health.
However, what we eat before and after our workout routine is even more important.
1. Raw vegetables
Who would ever think that vegetable are not always advised? You are absolutely right if you think that vegetables are good for your health. Nowadays the problem is that people do not eat enough vegetables. We do want you to consume plenty of veggies, but refrain from eating raw vegetable right after you have finished doing sports. Raw vegetables are low in calories. Do not expect this kind of food to restore your energy. Opt for cooked broccoli, celery or carrots. You may pick any vegetables to your taste, but prepare them before eating. Cooked vegetables combined with lean protein eaten after exercise will work better. If raw vegetables are your only choice, then eat them with yogurt or chicken.
After you have burnt so many calories working out hard for an hour, do not ruin the result by stuffing your face with junk. Pizza is one of the worst choices for those who want to feel and look good. Read the label and you will be shocked to find out the nutrition facts – a ten-inch pizza contains around 1200 calories! Pizzas are high in calories and carbohydrates. They are made with processed cheese and meat. There is no fiber, whole grains or lean protein. You will feel full after eating it, but by no means will you feel any healthier.
Blood-glucose levels can be boosted by consuming carbs. Pastries belong to some of the foods extremely rich in carbohydrates. But do not forget that the quality of carbs does count and you should not eat unhealthy options. Most pastries are full of fats most of which are too bad since all they do is they clog your arteries. Also, pastries are sweet because there is too much refined sugar in them. Besides the unhealthy fats and sugar, pastries contain tons of calories. Instead of pastries we suggest you should eat a whole wheat toast with some filling and nutritious peanut butter.
Flaxseeds are wonderful. Eat them on a regular basis, but do not eat them right after your workout session. Eating flaxseeds after exercise is wrong since the food is rich in fiber which will cause you feel bloated. In order to avoid discomfort, wait for a few hours and then feel free to add flaxseeds to your meals. It’s all right to eat flaxseeds as well as bran around two hours before heading to the gym.
5. Granola Bars
It’s surprising to find this kind of food on our list. Nevertheless, we do not recommend eating granola bars right after a workout. Opt for different types of post-workout snacks. We have got used to all the advertisements that tell us how healthy they are. Do your own research and find out more about granola bars. In fact, not all of them are equally healthy. Read the labels and make sure that the granola bars you usually purchase do not contain too much corn syrup or sodium. Some brands are rich in fats, too. Such bars contain tons of calories but no nutritious ingredients that would be worth the money you pay. Try and replace your granola bar with a banana or grapefruit.
